Rending

In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, Rending is a damage-buffing mechanic that increases the effectiveness of your attacks against armored targets by reducing the damage penalty they normally take from armor. It effectively acts as a form of armor penetration, allowing your attacks to deal a percentage of their normal damage that the armor would otherwise reduce. A higher Rend value means a larger portion of your damage will bypass armor, making you much more effective against heavily armored enemies like those with Flak or Carapace armor.

How Rending Works

  • Armor Penetration:

  • Each instance of Rending allows a percentage of your attack's damage to bypass armor.

  • Increased Damage vs. Armor:

  • Instead of dealing reduced damage to armored enemies, Rending brings your damage output closer to (and in some cases, even above) the base damage of the attack, as if the armor were less effective.

  • Stacking Buff:

  • Rending stacks are a player buff, meaning they are applied to your character's attacks, increasing the amount of damage that ignores armor with each additional stack.

Why Rending is Important

Killing Heavily Armored Enemies:

Rending is crucial for efficiently dispatching elite enemies with heavy armor, such as Poxwalkers, Rejects, and even some bosses, making these encounters much easier for your team.

Versatility:

Weapons or abilities that grant Rending provide a significant advantage, allowing a wider variety of weapons to be effective against a broader range of enemy types.
