Penetration

In Warhammer 40k: Darktide, Penetration is a weapon stat that improves your damage against armored enemies. A higher penetration value means your attacks ignore more of an enemy's armor, resulting in a greater percentage of the weapon's base damage being dealt to armored targets. Weapons with good penetration are essential for efficiently damaging elite enemies, such as those with flak or carapace armor.

How Penetration Works

Armor Reduction:

Armored enemies have damage resistance based on their armor type (e.g., flak, carapace).

Damage Calculation:

Your attack's penetration value is applied to this damage reduction. For example, if you have 50% penetration and attack an enemy with 50% armor, your penetration will reduce that enemy's damage resistance by 50%, leaving them with a 25% damage reduction instead of 50%.

Increased Damage:

This results in a significant increase in the damage your weapon deals to armored targets, making them easier to take down

Why Penetration is Important

Elite Target Prioritization:

Many powerful enemies in Darktide, such as specialists and monstrosities, possess heavy armor. Weapons with strong penetration are crucial for quickly eliminating these threats.

Weapon Synergy:

Penetration is particularly useful when combined with other armor-breaking mechanics, such as rending and brittleness.

Higher Damage Output:

A weapon that can effectively penetrate armor will deal much more damage overall than a weapon that simply does high base damage but struggles against armored targets.
