Quell Speed

In Warhammer 40k: Darktide, Quell Speed is a stat that determines how quickly a Psyker can reduce their Peril (a form of warp energy buildup) by holding down the secondary fire button (usually the reload key). A higher Quell Speed value reduces the time it takes to vent Peril, allowing a Psyker to return to casting spells or using abilities more quickly.

How Quell Speed Works

Active Quelling:

When a Psyker is holding down their force weapon's secondary fire button, they are actively quelling Peril. The higher the Quell Speed stat on their weapon, the faster this progress bar fills, and the sooner their Peril goes down.

Base Quelling:

The base Quell Speed is faster with a Force Staff than when quelling with a Force Sword or with your hands.

Effect on Staves:

On Force Staves, Quell Speed directly affects the rate at which Peril is vented while holding the staff.

Why It Matters

Combat Uptime:

Faster quelling means you can get back to using your powerful Psyker abilities, such as Brain Burst or casting spells, with less interruption.

Staff-Specific:

It's particularly important for Psyker staves because the process of charging and venting can lead to significant Peril buildup, according to Games Lantern.

Quell Speed vs. Other Stats

  • While Quell Speed is important for maintaining combat uptime, players often consider other attributes like Warp Resistance when prioritizing stats for a Psyker build.

  • Some players may argue that Quell Speed is a "dump stat" (a less important stat) for certain playstyles because quelling is already quite fast, but others find a high Quell Speed to be crucial for specific staff builds.
