Peril

In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, Peril is a resource for the Psyker class that represents the risk of using their powerful, warp-based psychic abilities. Accumulating too much Peril (reaching 100%) results in a catastrophic "Perils of the Warp" explosion, which downs the Psyker and damages allies. Players must manage their Peril by strategically using abilities, using force weapons to actively quell (lower) it, and leveraging the Psyker's ultimate ability to vent Peril and reduce the risk of explosion.

How Peril Works

Gaining Peril:

Every time a Psyker uses a warp-based ability or weapon (like Brain Burst, a force staff, or force sword) they gain Peril.

The Peril Meter:

The current Peril level is displayed on the screen, often represented by a skull icon.

Peril Decay:

Peril naturally decreases over time, though the rate depends on the weapon the Psyker is currently holding.

Active Quelling:

Holding down the reload button while a force weapon is equipped actively quells Peril, allowing for faster reduction than passive decay alone.

Perils of the Warp (Explosion)

Trigger:

If a Psyker attempts to use a psychic power while their Peril is at 100%, they will suffer a "Perils of the Warp" explosion.

Consequences:

This explosion downs the Psyker and damages nearby allies, making it a highly dangerous situation.

Tolerance:

There is a slight tolerance; it's possible to go over 100% Peril without immediately exploding, but continuing to act or failing to quell will trigger the explosion.

Managing Peril

Force Weapons:

While holding a force staff or force sword, you can manually quell Peril by holding the reload key.

Common Weapons:

Switching to a non-force weapon, like a lasgun, significantly speeds up passive Peril decay.

Psyker's Ultimate:

Casting your ultimate ability, Psykinetic's Wrath, will instantly reduce your Peril by a substantial amount, often 50%.

Feats and Blessings:

Various character feats and weapon blessings can also interact with Peril, providing benefits like increased Peril resistance or Soulblaze stacks at higher Peril levels.
