Martyrdom
In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, Martyrdom is a Zealot keystone ability that grants a temporary damage bonus and toughness damage reduction for each missing wound (health bar segment) you have, rewarding players for playing at low health. A player with a full health bar and no missing wounds will receive no benefit, but by deliberately taking damage or building multiple wounds, the Zealot can achieve significant increases in melee damage, attack speed, and toughness damage reduction, making them a powerful "lightning bruiser".
How It Works
Stacking Bonus:
For every wound you lose, you gain stacks of Martyrdom, providing increased benefits.
Melee Damage:
A key benefit is the significant increase to melee damage, making the Zealot a powerful damage dealer in close combat.
Toughness Damage Reduction:
You also receive a bonus to toughness damage reduction, making your temporary health bar much more resilient.
Increased Endurance:
The overall goal is to survive with a significant portion of your health missing to maximize these bonuses, allowing for more sustained aggression.
Synergy:
Martyrdom builds often rely on other nodes and abilities that allow for more wounds or provide ways to get back to low health reliably, such as Holy Revenant or specific curios.
Playstyle and Considerations
Risk vs. Reward:
Martyrdom encourages a high-risk, high-reward playstyle where you intentionally stay at low health to deal more damage.
Skillful Play:
This build is best suited for experienced players who can manage damage and maintain their low-health status effectively without being downed.
Vulnerability to Chip Damage:
While powerful, the build can be vulnerable to consistent chip damage, as it lacks temporary health for mitigating it compared to other builds.
Reworked Talents:
The ability was significantly buffed in a recent update, making it a strong and viable option for the Zealot class after its rework.
