Block

In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, a Block is a defensive action that significantly reduces or negates incoming melee and ranged damage while consuming stamina. Players can activate this defensive stance by holding down a button, which provides a 360-degree defense against most attacks, allowing for follow-up actions like parrying or resetting a weapon's attack animation, known as block canceling. Blocking is a crucial mechanic, especially when out of dodges or reviving teammates, though it is ineffective against certain special abilities and can lead to a severe stagger if stamina is depleted through guard breaks.

How to Block

  1. Hold the Parry/Block Button:
Press and hold the designated button to put your character into a blocking stance.

  2. Monitor Stamina:
Blocking consumes stamina; if your stamina runs out, you risk a guard break, which results in a significant stagger and damage.

  3. 360-Degree Defense:
Unlike a push, blocking provides a 360-degree defense, meaning you can block attacks from any direction without needing to be directly facing them.

Key Aspects and Uses

Stamina Management:

Blocking consumes stamina, so it's vital to manage your stamina bar and avoid prolonged blocking against powerful attacks.

Block Canceling:

You can cancel an attack animation by holding the block button, allowing you to perform a quicker series of attacks or regain defensive options.

Reviving Teammates:

Blocking is particularly useful when reviving teammates, as it protects both of you from enemy attacks as long as you have stamina.

Perfect Blocks:

A timely block, executed within a short window just before an attack hits (around 0.3 seconds), is called a perfect block. While it offers no inherent bonus, it is the prerequisite for triggering abilities or effects that rely on perfect timing.

Guard Breaks:

Blocking too many powerful attacks or when your stamina is depleted will result in a guard break, which is a severe stagger that leaves you vulnerable and takes damage.
